The sequel titled “The Resurrection” will focus on the 24 hours encompassing Christ’s passion and the three (3) days between his death and resurrection. The movie which has been in development for the past 10 years will cast Jim Caviezel as Jesus Christ, Mara Morgenstern as Mary, Christo Jirkov as John and Francesco De Vito as Peter.

In an interview with Greg Laurie in 2016. Mel Gibson revealed he had been working on the screenplay with award-winning screenwriter, Randall Wallace.

"It's called The Resurrection. Of course, that's a very big subject and it needs to be looked at because we don't want to just do a simple rendering of it — you know, read what happened," Gibson explained.

"But to read it, experience and explore probably deeper meanings of what it's about, it's going to take some doing and Randall Wallace is up to the task," Gibson continued. "He is also, as well as a brilliant writer, he is a great director. He directed We Were Soldiers and Heaven is for Real and stuff. So, he is a good writer and director."
